Name: Strengthening the textile production chain through the construction of home-based workshops for weavers associated with the Chol-Chol Foundation.
In field visits administered by the Chol-Chol Foundation, artisans were questioned about the difficulties and challenges in the textile production process. The women resoundingly stated that they lacked adequate workspace to perform their tasks throughout the year, as approximately 93% of the artisans work inside of their homes. This provides a large constraint when sharing this space with other household activities.
Throughout the course of one year, the Chol-Chol Foundation will select 15 artisans that live in vulnerable conditions in order to build them home-based textile work spaces, built specifically to meet the needs of the various phases of the weaving process. The team responsible for the execution of the project will locate financing and resources, purchase and transport all materials, and build the workshops. After the implementation of the workshops, the Chol-Chol Foundation will perform a results evaluation in order to assess the quality of the products made within this new production system, in order to analyze the impact of the project.
The hope is that, after proving success with this initial project, the Foundation will be able to apply for additional funds in order construct similar workspaces for the additional artisans with whom it works.
* Project financed through the fund: Fondo Mixto 2011 Ministerio de Desarrollo Social Gobierno de Chile, awarded to the Chol-Chol Foundation.
